Georgetown further Hopkins' Misery
The Blue Jays are Unable to Bounce Back before Regionals
By Chris de LaiglesiaThe last game before regionals, it was crucial that Hopkins were to be back on a winning streak. Playing at home, with plenty of subs and support, there was no excuse for the team to lose against a side with a 0-2-1 record. With the team ready to prove that the previous game was just a "one-off", the team got ready to show the home crowd what they were really capable of doing.
The game started in the way predicted. Hopkins were dominating in every aspect of the game, creating chance after chance, and it wasn't long until they broke the deadlock. After a fantastic team move, Ruppel provides a through ball down the center of the area, where de Laiglesia finishes and gives the Blue Jays a deserved lead. The team continue to dominate, although the Hoyas' physical dominance is starting to show. Going into the half with a 1-0 lead was not ideal, but winning was what was important.
The second half was where everything started to go all wrong. The forwards were not finishing, the midfield not winning the ball and the defense messing up some basics, and allowing their large number 10 to get chances that wouldn't normally happen. Georgetown got their first, and as Hopkins did not concentrate, having been winning for the majority of the game, let in a second moments later. The team got in a slight panic mode, with the intensity there, but even though they were making chances, they did not capitalize on them. It was only a matter of time till the Hoyas got their third.
It looked like the game was over, until a scramble in the box led Ruppel to put one in over the keeper, into the center of the goal. This raised the morale of the depressed Hopkins side, but eventually Georgetown struck once again, ending the game. The whistle came shortly after, and Hopkins will now have to go into regionals with two losses on their hands.
