2009-2010 Season Preview
By Chris de Laiglesia Expectations are high at Homewood practice field as the Hopkins Club Soccer Team attempt to take it a step further from the successful 2009-2008 season. The team have lost several key players, including the influential Jason Wink and the talented John Lapides, and the run they had during regionals is one difficult to imitate. However, there are several key points that may make it a successful campaign.
New Signings
As persuasive as he is attractive, Chris de Laiglesia (with the help of Chand Balfour), managed to bring in several big name players. Carlyle "Tevez" Balfour and Nick Khan will provide the quality necessary at the defensive end, and combined with Mohammed the enforcer, will make it difficult for any attack to score against the new keeper, Sheldon Edwards. David Drake, playing up top, will give the attacking options that Chand and Bergs gave prior to their sale to the varsity team.
Pre-Season
For the first time in Club Soccer history, there will be a pre-season to condition the majority of the team for the upcoming season. Unlike the 2008/2009 season, where the team tested out formations during official games, the team will be ready from game one to get a strong record and prevent crossing any difficult games till the final.
It'll be interesting to see how the club soccer team fears this season, but the transfer window is still open, and tryouts are coming up in 3 weeks time, with plenty of room for surprises. All we can do now is wait and see.
