Blue Jays Outclassed by Superior Colorado State Side
Chances of Qualifications Look Bleak, as Hopkins lose 3-0
By Chris de LaiglesiaIt was vital that the boys in blue were to score early in this game, as they were already tired from the morning game. The 1.15pm kickoff was not going to be kind on the slightly dehydrated team, and the fact that Colorado had plenty of subs was going to be a problem. It was going to be an uphill battle from the start, and that is exactly what it proved to be.
Suggesting that Colorado State were dominating is an understatement, as Hopkins looked pleb-ish against such a strong side. They were bigger, just as skillful and very organized. Although they had 90-95% of the possession, they were not able to get any solid shots on goal, as they decided to take shots from 30-50 yards out, which was never really a problem for Edwards. It was frustrating for the players to have to chase the ball around but they kept it up, with the defense staying solid throughout. Unfortunately, although deserved, Colorado scored a mediocre goal to take the lead. They took another 25 yard hit that stayed low on the ground, to which Edwards was able to get down in time for, but was unable to grab hold of it. He landed on the ball, which then trickled into the goal. It left Hopkins with a mountain to climb.
The second half was not much better, with Roscoe getting hurt, and the sun just exhausting the team as the opposing team slowed down their game. The Blue Jays attacked more so than the first half, and looked much better, but due to the team moving forward, left Sise alone on many occasions, and through counter-attacks, were able to score two goals (one from a penalty conceded by Yoo), essentially ending their chances of continuing in the tournament.
The game finally ended, as Hopkins went back to the hotel hoping for a miracle in the Colorado State - Georgia game.
